The family physicians and internists at SMBP are expert in senior health care. Dr. Bernard Katz is a board certified geriatrician and Virginia Galan-Burns, one of our nurse practitioners, specializes in geriatric care and is a wonderful resource for patients who are residing in nursing homes temporarily or permanently. Our geriatric nurse practitioner and physicians can make house calls for seniors when necessary. Our Physical Therapy department can assist patients who have sustained injuries or are recuperating from joint replacement or other surgeries in which exercise and strengthening programs are very helpful in speeding the recovery. The Physical Therapy department also assists in stroke rehabilitation. Our sleep diagnostic center is Medicare certified and is available to diagnose and initiate treatment for sleep apnea and other common sleep disorders. We provide pneumonia and flu vaccinations, audiometry testing for hearing loss, cardiac testing, and pulmonary function evaluation. Our physicians are trained to evaluate and treat memory loss, fatigue, depression, and dementia in addition to all routine medical problems for senior patients. |
