Internists specialize in the care of adults. After four years of medical school internists usually spend at least another three years in training. The internal medicine specialists at SMBP also have passed the Board Certification of the American Board of Internal Medicine after they have completed their residency. Several of our SMBP internists have gone on to further specialize in pulmonology, rheumatology, and infectious disease.
