Osteoporosis or brittle bones is a common condition that can lead to loss of height and to fractures. Although more common in women it is also seen in men, particularly who have other illnesses that may deplete the calcium from their bones. It is important to diagnose osteoporosis early because proper treatment with calcium, exercise, and a number of available drugs can reverse the condition and help prevent fractures. Osteoporosis can be easily diagnosed using a technique called DEXA, dual energy x-ray absorptiometry. SMBP offers DEXA scans on a state of the art GE Lunar DEXA machine. The SMBP doctors use the DEXA results to design a custom program for fracture prevention. Our DEXA scan can also provide you with your body fat analysis.
